Teaching Philosophy

As an educator, I encourage and push students to continually learn something new every day. I serve as a guide to help expand their knowledge and become curious about the world. I hope that students will take the information they learn out into the world and share this newly found knowledge with others. I approach education by reaching all types of learning styles like visual, kinesthetic, and auditory.

PE Paraprofessional

This current 2021-2022 school year LaurenMarie got the privilege to serve as a PE paraprofessional at McNutt elementary, located in Arlington Independent School District. In her first year, she has had many highlights such as:

  • Attended elementary physical education share sessions/trainings after school. This is where she learned more in-depth about how to run programs such as the 21-day nutrition challenge, Fuel Up to Play 60, Kids Heart Challenge, and the Alley Cats Bowling partnerships. The trainings also covered best practices from TAHPERD that could be transferred into the warmup/cooldowns and themed activities.

  • Created the office calendar to help stay organized with upcoming meetings, due dates, important information, and lesson glances for each week. As well as created year at a glance calendar for PE lessons.

  • Created an amazon teacher Wishlist filled with items to help replenish worn-out equipment as well as get new equipment to use for Fit Fridays.

  • Helped fulfill other roles around the building whenever needed. (Clerk, Music, Kinder, Pre-K, STAAR testing)

  • Helped with all Field day aspects such as: creating schedule and map, organizing and running T-Shirt sales, set up equipment before school.

  • Stayed to support the basketball club in the fall. As well as assisted in coaching both the boy's/girls basketball team in the spring. Which included going to games on Saturdays.

  • Was nominated for paraprofessional of the year and made it to the top three on the ballot.

Student Teaching

LaurenMarie completed her student teaching as the completion of her Masters of Arts in Teaching in the Fall of 2019. She was placed at Timber Creek Highschool in Keller Isd with the Varisty Director/Head Dance Teacher Lindsey Harris.

During her time at Timber Creek LaurenMarie assisted and taught in Dance I, Dance III/IV, Drill Team Prep, and Unified Dance (Partners in Dance). She was able to create lesson plans, activities, assessments, and choreograph. For Dance I, III/IV she covered the units of anatomy, ballet, jazz, and modern with the students. In Drill Team Prep she worked on prepping students with the technique needed for drill team tryouts. This included teaching kick, jazz, and military technique. Lastly, for Unified Dance LaurenMarie worked on creating an inclusive environment to teach dance to all abilities. This was the first time the dance department at Timber Creek partnered with the SPED students.

On top of teaching, LaurenMarie attended all practices, performances, and meetings for the drill team, the Skydancers. LaurenMarie wanted to be fully emersed and learn the behind-the-scenes of what it takes to run a varsity drill team.
